On February 22 the Pure Salmon Campaign sent another round of letters to Chile and UK authoritites and company officials requesting specific information on the Chilean companies involved in crystal violet contamination.

Pure Salmon Raises Questions About Crystal Violet Contamination
The Pure Salmon Campaign, along with Centro Ecoceanos, Fundacion Terram and Oceana South America, sent a series of letters to various UK and Chilean authorities and high ranking company officials raising concerns regarding an incident of Crystal Violet (a chemical dye that has been shown to cause cancer in laboratory animals) contamination in frozen salmon skewers that was discovered on 19 December, 2006 in the UK.

Terram Foundation, a Chilean group concerned about the environmental, social and economic problems associated with salmon farming practices, has published a study on the food-feed debate that shows that the current salmon farming industry is not only unsustainable, it also poses serious ecological and social dangers.
Pan Fish urged to stop exporting environmental problems and bad labor practices
The Pure Salmon Campaign will file a shareholder resolution at Pan Fish's annual general meeting in Stavanger Norway on May 30 asking the company to adopt closed containment technology to remedy environmental impacts on salmon farms. Accompanied by two First Nations leaders from Canada and a Chilean, the campaign plans on providing first-hand accounts of how Pan Fish's operations are exporting environmental problems and poor labor conditions to other countries.
More than 30 Scientists from Around the World Express Concern About Current Farming Methods
At the same time, the Pure Salmon Campaign will release a statement signed by more than thirty U.S., European, Canadian, and other international scientists communicating their concerns about the salmon aquaculture industry.
